George Bellows (1882-1925) was an important American artist whose work is being shown in a special exhibition at the National Gallery of Art. The fellows received a special tour of the exhibit on Friday, July 13. Bellows was a Columbus boy, an Ohio State alumnus (though he dropped out and headed for New York just before he was due to graduate), and an excellent ballplayer who eschewed a chance to play professionally with the Cincinnati Redlegs.

I truly enjoyed the George Bellows exhibit. It was inspiring to see the extensive and diverse body of work done by one man. It became clear that Bellows was inspired by the simple, and sometimes taboo, occurrences around him after entering the second and third rooms. I was very impressed. His portrayal of those who were shunned during the time struck me as unique.
ReplyDeleteI recommend attending the exhibit to any of those who would like to see an example of raw history.
